Independent.Northern.Creative.

INC is a non-profit organisation created to provide events, exhibitions, information and a focal point for graphic designers and people from other related disciplines in the North of England.

We recognise the need for more graphic design events in the region. Since the Drawing Board events in the 1970's and the Typographic Circle North events in the 1980's there have been precious few, especially when compared to London. These northern events were not only informative and enjoyable, but also brought the design community together on a social basis to discuss ideas.

Considering the design heritage of the North and it's huge influence on design around the world, the area has often lacked a forum to showcase its talented individuals and companies.

Although we are based in Manchester, with the use of gallery space at the studios Creative Lynx on Princess Street, we aim to extend membership to the whole of the North of England.

INC is committed to organising regular speaker events and exhibitions featuring designers, photographers, illustrators etc., in particular those with a strong connection to the North. This will provide a showcase for northern designers and their work, from renowned and established names to more unsung talent. Using our own regional heritage as a focus, we aim to put on events of the highest standard, events that are interesting, stimulating and informative. We are aiming to putting out a magazine three times a year, produced
by members.

We aim to attract a membership of people working in the design industry, students and suppliers as well as people who are simply interested in the subject areas. We will also encourage membership and attendance from commissioners of design and key figures in the wider business world to encourage their awareness of the strength of the quality of creative work in the area.

All members will be encouraged to participate in the organisation as much as possible by helping to promote it, making suggestions and getting involved at any level. Rather than be defined simply as an organisation about the north we are, it is important to emphasise, an organisation of the north. Although the north provides a useful focus, our ethos is determinedly self-assured and outward looking. The quality of design from the region is already self-evident, and no case needs to be made for it. We are simply providing an extra local platform from which to celebrate this alongside any other outstanding international work.

We are very keen to establish and develop links with other design organisations, academic establishments and any other relevant organisations or groups.
